Konkeror 1000T: " I LOVE THIS MACHINE "

Reliable, powerful and safe equipment means nothing if there’s no dedicated professional to operate it, says Manuel De Wulf. He is responsible for the smooth running of Lefort’s 1000t Konkeror shear baler at Nieulandt Recycling in Aalst, Belgium.
The machine was delivered and installed early this summer to replace a 600-tonne mobile shear, also from Lefort. With more and more scrap loads coming in, the company needed extra capacity. ‘We can now easily process 20 to 25 tonnes of materials per hour,’
says De Wulf, who operates the Konkeror using a remote control system from the cabin of a material handler high above, overlooking the yard. It took three days’ training from Lefort to get familiar with the equipment.

‘What do I love best about the Konkeror? Its ease of use, thanks to the remote control system, and thedisplay providing insight into all functions and possible breakdowns at a glance. Another advantage: this machine produces far less noise compared to other shears.’De Wulf has been working at Nieulandt Recycling for 23 years. ‘The scrap yard feels like my second home,’ he says. ‘It’s great to work in the open air, sorting and moving the metals around.’ Manuel’s brother Jef works for Nieulandt too, and his son Quinten also joined the company recently. ‘He’s a truck driver collecting the scrap,’ Manuel points out.

Sanne Nieulandt and Filip Vijverman are the third generation to head up the Nieulandt Recycling family business. The company processes 13 000 tonnes of ferrous and 2 000 tonnes of non-ferrous scrap per year. Materials are sourced from within 15km of the facility, most of which is supplied by companies and industrial outlets. On a yearly basis, Nieulandt also exports some 50 containers of scrap electric motors.

With cutting forces ranging from 600 to 1000 tonnes, Lefort’s Konkeror shear balers are robust machines, designed using the same principles as the manufacturer’s heavy shears and thus enabling the processing of most metals and demolition scrap while guaranteeing
low operating costs.
